I think there's something especially common with online pseudonymous communication that makes it so easy for people to be callous and cruel to each other. By comparison, I think of my experience taking dance classes and how (generally) everyone is universally kind and supportive to beginners, no matter how much they seem to be struggling. Maybe there is something about the human and vulnerable elements of these spaces that reinforces norms around decency and positivity. I wish (hope?) that we can find more of the same online as well :)
